Medical Tourism

Medical tourism is a growing sector in India. India’s medical tourism sector is expected to experience an annual growth rate of 30%, making it a Rs. 9,500-crore industry by 2015. Estimates of the value of medical tourism to India go as high as $2 billion a year by 2012. Ministry of Tourism

India(MoT) is planning to extend its Market Development Assistance (MDA) scheme to cover Joint Commission International (JCI) and National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH) certified hospitals. A policy announcement of this effect is likely soon.

 

Hospitals groups like The Global Hospitals Group, MIOT Hospitals, Fortis Healthcare, Apollo hospitals, Max Hospitals, Dharamshila Cancer Hospital and Research Centre have increased their presence in international market for medical tourism.

The south Indian city of Chennai has been declared India's Health Capital, as it nets in 45% of health tourists from abroad and 30-40% of domestic health tourists. However, cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad are witnessing the refurbishment of world-class medical facilities with Medanta Medicity , Max Healthcare , Apollo Hospitals , Fortis Healthcare , Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to name a few. All such health providers are well equipped to provide best-in-class medical care facilities across various medical conditions, including cardiac, neuro, orthopedics, eye care, dental, cosmetic and all forms of surgery.
