Cannabis can help in Healing Bone Cancer

According to a study, it was noticed that the use of anti-inflammatory compound present in cannabis could heal the bone fractures significantly.

The study, which was conducted on rats who had mid-femoral fractures, discovered that the function of the non-psychotropic component cannabinoid cannabidiol also referred as CBD boosts the healing process significantly of the femora, precisely after eight weeks.

Yankel Gabet, one of the lead researchers from Tel Aviv University in Israel, said that CBD alone itself is sufficient for enhancing the fracture healing.

Cannabis, commonly known as Marijuana or Hashish was used all the over world as a go-to medical remedy for many centuries. Though therapeutic usage of cannabis was put at a bar in most of the countries in 1930s and 40s as it was suspected that the drugs dangerously addictive.

The prominent medical advantages of cannabis in alleviating symptoms of diseases like Parkinson’s, cancer and multiple sclerosis have been studied recently.

According to the new research, which was published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, the researchers associated with the study injected a group of rats with CBD alone and another group of rats with a combination of CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the prominent psychoactive component of the drug.

After studying the two groups of rats, researchers concluded that the group of rats who were injected with CBD alone provided the necessary therapeutic stimulus.

Gabe stated that they discovered that CBD alone is adequate to make bones stronger during the process of healing, boosting the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which is the base for fresh mineralization of tissue present in the bone.

Get further stated that after the process of healing is completed, the bone treated with the help of CBD will take the longer duration to break as compared to the non-treated one. Various other studies have also shown that CBD is a safe agent, which means the study via clinical trials should be continued to assess its advantages in improving the process of healing of a fractured bone.

These respective findings can be very helpful in leading the research on the cannabinoid drugs to extract solutions to various other conditions like osteoporosis or other bone-related diseases.
