Does Your Wisdom Tooth Trouble You?

Does Your Wisdom Tooth Trouble You?

As the wisdom tooth occurs late in your life, the remaining 28 teeth would have already been placed in their appropriate places, thereby not leaving the place for the wisdom tooth to grow properly. This is the reason why, the wisdom tooth emerges at an angle and it gets stuck and this is called as wisdom tooth impaction.

Types of wisdom tooth:

• In some cases, the wisdom tooth will not be in a position to break through the gums at all.

• The tooth may emerge at an angle

• The growing wisdom tooth may break halfway through the gums, thereby causing gum tissues to grow over the tooth.

• The final type is the impacted tooth, thereby leading to further damage and infection to the nearby teeth and bones.

Why should be the wisdom tooth removed?

There are chances that your dentist may not recommend for the removal of wisdom tooth, if it does not create any trouble. But, if it is creating trouble, it should be removed. It is generally suggested that the impacted tooth should never be touched, unless and until it creates some sort of trouble and pain. On the other hand, if it grows in an awkward angle, there are chances that food particles might get trapped around the edge of the wisdom tooth. When the bacteria begin to work with these food particles, they will jointly lead in formation of plaque. This plaque will initially erode the wisdom tooth and will slowly damage the adjacent tooth as well. In such a case, dental surgery will be suggested.

How is the wisdom tooth removed?

As the wisdom tooth is something impacted, your dentist will have to cut through the gums. This is why it cannot be stated as a mere extraction, but as a oral surgery. But, there is no need to worry as your dentist will give a local anesthetic injection that will numb your senses. Your dentist might break through the gum and might need to cut the wisdom tooth into smaller pieces for enabling easy removal. All you will experience is some pressure as the dentist tries to pull out the bad tooth by shaking it back and forth. The time taken will vary from one patient to another. Even though, there will not be any pain during the surgery, you may experience some swelling, bleeding and pain after the completion of the procedure. Your dentist might suggest you some medicine for easing the pain and swelling and it will go away within a week.
