At 6-month of age, babies undergo various changes. They began controlling their actions, try to react towards action and also their growth develops at a very strong pace. So food for 6-month baby needs to be consist of all the proper nutrients which help in overall development of the baby. Further, there are certain recommendations, some do's and don’ts regarding baby’s diet, meal chart and some quick homemade recipes for the baby.

Solid food:

This is the age (6 months) where most of the experts advise and you must also be ready to prepare solid food for 6-month baby. Yes, this is the accurate time to start feeding your little ones with solid supplements. It is considered to be the best time to start with solid stuff because at this stage the digestive enzymes start developing within them which makes the digestive system stronger and helps in absorbing firm ingredients. Also, the best part is that at this period the child is also able to balance his neck which is very important for swallowing food. Still, some children may show a little delay or hurry to be ready for solid meals. To confirm that your child is ready for solids you need to observe some facts and habits like:

  • If a baby is showing interest when others are eating that means he/she is ready
  • Baby has developed control over the neck and can sit without or with some support.
  • Baby’s weight has doubled as compared to the birth weight.

Nutrients and Diet Required:

You can mix the purees with water or breast milk as per the required consistency.

Some Don’ts:

Here are some things which need to be taken care of a six-month-year-old baby:

  • Keep your baby away from contaminated soil and do not feed him/her honey.  Bacteria through these enter into their gastrointestinal tract and can lead to a life-threatening illness Boutlism.
  • Do not feed them cow’s milk as their digesting power is low regarding it until they are one year old.
  • Do not put them on the bed with milk bottle to prevent them from tooth decay.
  • Try to avoid feeding them with added sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Do not give them opened baby packet foods (which are stored in refrigerators) of more than two days.
  • Unless consulted by the paediatrician, do not give baby cereals in the bottle.
  • Make sure you are not overfeeding the baby.
