Ways to Keep Your Heart Healthy

Ways to Keep Your Heart Healthy

Work pressure, increasing stress, competition, working long hours and munching junk food are the new dimensions of modern lifestyle that are effectively taking a toll on our little muscular organ – the heart. As a result, heart disease has become one of the major causes of death these days. People getting admitted in Cardiology Hospitals in India are increasing day by day. Although we can`t control and change some risk factors like history, age, sex, etc. There are some prevention steps that we can take to keep our heart healthy. Here are few easy ways that can help your heart stay strong and young:-

Eat Healthy
The foremost step towards preventing heart diseases is to improve your diet. In today`s fast paced life where everything is available ready-made especially the food, avoiding unhealthy food becomes quite difficult. However, these fatty and cholesterol-laden fast foods are pretty bad for heart. Therefore, eating nutritious and balanced diet with plenty of high-fiber food is essential. For instance, fruits, vegetables, legume and nuts are an essential step to keep your heart healthy and disease prone.

Engage in Physical Activity
An inactive lifestyle is amongst the major risk factors for heart disease. So when it comes to maintaining a healthy heart; physical activity is a must. Whether it is a scheduled exercise program or just a part of your daily routine, being active is very important. So to ensure good cardiovascular health, make sure that 1 hour of vigorous physical activity is a part of your daily routine.

Quit Smoking and Drinking
If you smoke or drink, the chances of you developing heart disease are much more than those who don`t have either of those habits. Most people associate smoking with lung diseases, but the truth is that smoking is one of major reasons of heart attack. Nicotine in cigarettes increases the blood pressure, narrows down the blood vessels, damages the cells that line coronary arteries and increases the risks of developing a blood clot. On the other hand, alcohol could protect your heart too, if it is taken moderately. In excess, it is definitely bad for heart.

Manage Stress Level
Studies suggest that if you continue to be stressed, you are more prone to heart attack, high blood pressure, chest pain and irregular heartbeats. Stress is a part of normal life, but if left unattended, it can lead to various health problems. Therefore, it is extremely important to manage stress levels to boost your heart. Speak to friends, socialize and take a break. Enjoy your life to the fullest and keep your heart strong and young.

Sleep well
Good sound sleep contributes to overall health and well-being of a person. Though considered a passive activity, numerous studies have shown that lack of sleep is associated with number of chronic diseases, such as depression, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, blood pressure etc. So make sure that you get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night to possess a healthy heart.
