There is a good news that awaits diabetes patients and the news is that they now can use a new method to know the blood sugar levels. This new testing method was successfully tested by doctors from India and it is called as ‘salivary glycol protege’. This test will tell their sugar count with the help of their saliva.
No painful ways:
Diabetic patients need not have to rely on painful blood tests and they can save the time to run to laboratories for getting the sugar levels tested. The reason is that this easy and painless method that can give quick result can be done right from the home.
Brains behind the successful testing method:
An American doctor named Dr. Srinivas Nagalla and another Indian doctor Dr. Vishnupriya Rao, who work as Head of the Endocrinology Department in the National Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, are the founders of this method. They actually invented the new type of paper strip for testing the sugar levels in the body. All that is to be done by patients to get their sugar level tested is to place this strip of paper below the tongue for a while during which the sugar level will be noted.
About the strip:
This strip is known to contain 7 lines which will indicate the diabetes level in the blood. Dr. Vishnupriya Rao, who is an important member in the invention team, said that this test will give exact result about sugar level in the blood. It is also said that this strip will be made available for the public for use within six months. This team has also gained patent rights for this testing method.
Dr. Rao said that most of the patients do not get their sugar level tested regularly as a result of which they get the help of the doctors only after the level has reached a new height. But, with this strip, they need not have to visit laboratories and need not have to fear for syringes used for blood test, they can just get to know their sugar level right at the comfort of their home and each strip costs just Rs.2.
In addition, the team of doctors states that as against blood test, this is an affordable method for knowing the sugar level in the blood as well.
Generally, diabetic patients are recommended to keep their sugar level under control and they are also asked to get the level tested regularly, so that appropriate methods can be followed, if a sudden hike in the level is identified. But, due to inadequate time or due to fear of pain or due to cost factor or just because of the laziness to visit the laboratory for getting the test done, people keep postponing the level tested. But, with this strip readily available at their home at an affordable cost, every problem associated with getting to know the level tested is eliminated.
