Different Types Of Inhalers Available For Asthma Patients

Asthma is a disease associated with swelling of lungs. Patients with this health issue will experience difficulty in breathing and attacks like tightness, wheezing and coughing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is stated to be common among children in America. It is further added that one out of every 10 child has this problem.

Types of asthma:

Sometimes, this condition is referred to as bronchial asthma and the reason is that it affects the portion called bronchi in the lungs. Here are the types of this health issue:

• Allergic asthma

• Non-allergic asthma

• Cough-variant asthma

• Exercise-induced asthma

• Occupational asthma

Treatment:

Generally, to treat the asthmatic attacks and to get instant relief from breathing problems, inhalers are recommended for asthma patients and these inhalers are classified into different types. In addition, the fact to be remembered by the patients with this health issue is that selection of the right inhaler will play an important role in relieving the symptoms associated with this health issue. Now, let us get into the details about the different types of inhalers:

Dry-powder inhaler:

In this type of inhaler, the medication is delivered to the patient through the lungs. When the patient takes deep breaths with this type of inhaler, the medicine will reach the lungs. These kinds of inhalers come in disk and tube forms and so they are highly easier to carry.

In this type of inhaler, the medication is delivered to the patient through the lungs. When the patient takes deep breaths with this type of inhaler, the medicine will reach the lungs. These kinds of inhalers come in disk and tube forms and so they are highly easier to carry. However, the issue with this type is that if the patient accidentally exhales, the medicines will be wasted.

Metered-dose inhaler:

This is the most recognized kind of inhaler as this model delivers medicine through a tiny and rushed holder that does not require the patient to breathe deep to get the medicine. The holder just fits into a tiny device that will be in the shape of a shoe and it would have been made out of plastic material. Even though, this is a convenient type, some models do not show the doses of medicines left in the holder.

Metered-dose inhaler with a spacer:

The additional spacer in this type makes the medication even easier to handle. The reason is that the medicine is contained after it is released from the inhaler and is efficiently channeled into the airways. This extra attachment in this type will permit the patient to inhale at a slower pace; thereby it will increase the amount of medicine that gets to the lungs. The problem with this model is that it is slightly larger as compared to the other models and so it will be somewhat difficult for the patients to carry.

Which type to choose?

The answer to this question purely depends on the requirement and preference of the user. For instance, if they are convenient enough to carry they can opt for the third type mentioned above. Likewise, they can compare and contrast each of the above-mentioned types before arriving at the ideal life-saving device during their asthma attacks.
