The stomach:

This organ situated in the upper abdomen between the small intestine and esophagus is responsible for a number of tasks like aiding in digestion, sending signal to the brain when you are full, etc. This part is also responsible for prevention of infections by producing an acid from its lining that will work on harmful bacteria that might have got into the body through meals.

Even though, the absorption of nutrients happens in the small intestine, the stomach is a part that is responsible for breaking down and absorption of amino acids and simple sugars like glucose and some medications like aspirin. There is a valve at the bottom of stomach and this valve is responsible for regulating the level of food that can enter the small intestine.
