Liver disease leads to many infections
The meaning of hepatitis is inflammation. The liver cells can be inflamed due to some infection.
The primary cause of spreading Hepatitis-A is infected facial matter entering the mouth through facial oral route and the recipient ingests it inadvertently. Acute inflammation in liver is caused by Hepatitis-A , It has spontaneous resolving power. The infection can be treated by Hepatitis-A.
Washing hands thoroughly every time you prepare food can prevent the problem Oral kisses with unknown person should be avoided as a practices.
Many reasons are there for spreading the Hepatitis-B disease. They are mainly exposure to body fluids. The exposures may be contaminated blood, needles from drug abuses and most prominent one is sexual contact. All these can cause an acute infection and in due course of time it can turn into chronic inflammation or chronic Hepatitis, with most [probability it can lead to liver cancer or cirrhosis.
Hepatitis-B injection can only be the preventive part.
Any one affected with Hepatitis-C means the person is a chronic patient. However, the person may not recall any sort of acute illness.
Like Hepatitis-B, they are mainly exposure to body fluids. The exposures may be contaminated blood, needles from drug abuses and most often it is due to sexual contacts. If a person is affected with chronic Hepatitis-C, the problem will result into cirrhosis and liver cancer.
No vaccine is available, as on date, against this virus.
The virus needs to concomitant infection with hepatitis-B for its survival. The spread of this virus is also through needles from drug abuses, the exposures may be contaminated blood, and like other Hepatitis-B and Hepatitis-C, it is due to sexual contacts.
The virus spreads through contaminate water & contaminated food.
Other viruses causing liver inflammation
Hepatitis problem or liver inflammation can be caused by other viruses. They are:
• Epstein Barr virus or infectious mononucleosis
• adenovirus, and
These viruses are responsible for liver inflammation.
Some infections are non-viral, but are common causes for liver inflammations. They are:
• Rocky Mountain spotted fever and
An inherited disease, iron over-loaded Hemochromatosis is a state of metabolic disorder, causing extra amount of iron stores in the body. The heart, pancreas and tissues of the liver may store the excess iron. These abnormal happenings lead to many complications like liver inflammation, liver cancer, cirrhosis and even liver failure.
Fatty liver disease (Non-Alcoholic)
Fatty liver or Non-Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH) is responsible for the accumulation of fat in liver, causing inflammation of the liver. This may turn towards gradual decrease in the functions of liver.
A person with this disease will have abnormality in the liver’s bilirubin metabolism. 70 per cent of the North American populations become the victims of this disease.
There is no remarkable symptom in this type of disease. The diagnosis is based on the detection of an elevated bilirubin level when blood tests are done. It is a benign condition, so does not require any treatment.
This is another type hereditary disease. The disease infects the body’s capacity to copper absorption. Because of this problem, diseases like liver failure and cirrhosis may be the effects for a person.
Liver cells and liver structures are the causes of liver cancers. The cancers are of two types:
1) Cholangio carcinoma and 2) hepatocellular carcinoma
The secondary liver cancer or Metastatic Cancer starts in the other organ of our body, but spreads to the liver by taking the blood streams in most of the cases. The common cancers reach to the liver may originally start from large intestine, lung, breast, stomach, and pancreas. The other types of cancers like Hodgkin's lymphoma and Leukaemia may also involve liver.
Abnormalities in blood flow
Blood clots or Budd Chiari syndrome in the hepatic vein and becomes the reason for blood not to leave the liver. Due to this, increased pressure in the liver’s blood vessels or especially in the portal vein are diagnosed. This leads to the death of the liver cells, resulting to liver failure and cirrhosis.
The causes of this disease are pregnancy, sickle cell disease, inflammatory bowel disease, abnormally elevated red blood cell count or polycythemia.
Congestive heart failure
Due to weak heart functions, blood or body fluids back up in the large veins in human body, causing liver swelling and inflation.
The normal course of body fluids & their flows
From the liver, Bile flows into the gallbladder than to the intestine for helping in the food digestion. In case any obstruction takes place in the bile, liver inflammation may be the after effect of it. Gallstones are the prime causes of the duct-obstructions, blocking the bile drainage system from the liver.
Other than this, if there are any abnormalities in the opening of the bile duct in the sphincter or into the small intestine, it can cause bile flows’ abnormalities. Oddi’s sphincter works as the valve that allows bile to flow to the intestine from the common bile duct.
Progressive scarring of the bile ducts can be caused due to primary sclerosing cholangitis and primary biliary cirrhosis. This may lead to narrowing them down and ultimately resulting to decreased bile flow from the liver. The ultimate casualties due to scaring and damages of the liver are seen in the form of liver failure.
Other forms of diseases and their conditions
Liver is a vital organ responsible for carrying out different functions for so many organs, so if it gets non-functional, it can affect many connected organs in our body. Many complications arise due to liver disease or liver failure.
Blood clotting factors are produced by our liver. In case liver function is decreased, increased risk of bleeding in our body will be the result.
The problem is caused due to increased level of ammonia because of liver’s failure to metabolise and process proteins in the diet, resulting to lethargy, confusion and coma.
Protein manufacturing or protein synthesis:
Our building blocks are manufactured in the liver in the form of protein. If protein is not manufactured in the required quantity, there will be abnormalities in our body functioning.
Abnormal body function:
Portal hypertension is one of such body abnormality. The unique blood supply to the liver makes it work perfectly for other organs. But in case the liver tissues are damaged, increased pressure to the blood vessels in the liver will badly affect the blood flow to the entire body parts.
• Spleen swelling may be the after effect of this problem. The other development is the swollen veins or varices in the gastrointestinal tract that covers the areas like oesophageal varices or oesophagus and stomach to the anus. The situation is different from the swollen veins of haemorrhoids.
