What is our liver?

In our body, liver is the largest solid organ. Liver is also considered as a gland for its various functions that include making and secreting bile. Normal functions of vein

Veins normally return blood from the body to the heart and the job of the portal vein is to supply chemicals from the digestive parts to the liver for filtering and detoxifying, before the blood can go for general circulation Other than this, the portal veins are also effective in supplying the proteins and chemicals needed for our liver cells for producing glycogens, cholesterols and proteins for our normal body activities.

Normal liver functions

As its main function, our liver makes bile; a fluid substance has bile acids, chemicals, water and other substances. These are produced from the stored cholesterols in the liver. Bile is stored in the gallbladder and after the entry of food in the small intestine’s first part i.e. duodenum, bile gets secreted into duodenum for helping the digestion of foods.

The only organ in our body is the liver, which can replace the damaged cells to some extent. In case the damage is too much, it cannot do the entire replacements. So liver is known to be a factory. Its functions are as follows:-

 storing of the extra sugar or glucose into stored glycogen in our body’s liver cells, after that it converts it back into glucose for supplying the energy, needed for our body;

 production of bile is very essential for the digestion of foods, particularly fats;

 production of amino acids, the essential substance for building blocks for the production of proteins), and also those materials which are helpful for fighting infection;

 Manufacturing of blood clotting factors;

 Production of different chemicals and cholesterol which are required for transporting fat;

 It processes and also stores the iron which are very essential for the productions of red blood cells;

 metabolizing medications as the active ingredients in to our body system, and finally,

 Converting the waste products from our body’s metabolisms into urea in the excreted form of urine.

Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis is known for the permanent scarring of the liver. The normal liver cells are replaced by scar tissue in the cirrhosis, because in this condition our liver cannot function normally.

The situation is known as liver disease’s late-stage. Because of loss of functionality or scarring of liver, the liver functions failLiver is also considered as a gland for its various functions that include making and secreting bile.
