Prostate enlargement i.e. benign prostatic hyperplasia

BPH or benign prostatic hypertrophy or benign prostatic hyperplasia is the prostrate gland’s benign enlargement, causing difficulties in urination. The problem is commonly seen in the males with the advancements of age, crossing 50 years. With the gradual enlargement of prostate, urethra becomes the systematic victim of on-going compressions. The patient with this BPH problem, may not completely empty his bladder. As a consequence, urine will remain stagnant in the bladder, which will result into bladder stone or urinary tract infection.  If the condition is left out without medical intervention, the result will be kidney damage. The most commonly seen BPH problem starts from the ‘obstructed urethra’ or if a patient has diminishing bladder functions. Some of the BPH patients may face urination problem or change in urination as below:

 Incomplete urination, when bladder is not fully empty

 Difficulty in starting urination

 Urge for urine become more urgent or incessant

 More frequent urination,

 Leaking, weak stream or interrupted

Complications of BPH

Urination or BPH complication does not require any urgent medical treatment.

The problem may occur to those women who deliver many children. The problem is very rare with male. The possibility of this problem in male is found in those cases when urethra-infection first affects prostate and then the bladder. If a male is repeatedly becoming the victim of cystitis, it is due to the persistence of bacterial infection in his prostate. Some males may have problem of bacterial infection in the prostate, which may also be the cause of this cystitis. Some males may have obstructed flow of urine because of stone in urethra or in bladder that narrows the organs, for which bacteria cannot be easily flushed out of the bladder. In this stage, the left out bacteria in the bladder is most likely to infect the bladder and multiply them. The bladder inflammation, even without any infection, can lead to interstitial cystitis.
