Organ donation is a big problem in India, and so posing an uncontrollable challenge

The remedy of the problem

People in India do not know the importance of organ donation. A few who have the willingness to donate are not supported by the family members or the closest ones.  Many myths and superstitions are also associated with the organ donations. These are a few of the reasons of awareness, because had the general public welcomed the gesture, many could be educated and inspired to come forward and volunteer in the movement just like blood donations. As far as blood donation is considered, it is known and practiced by many volunteers. In Western Countries driving licenses are issued as the donor cards for donating any organ.

Following the path of the western countries, the union government of India is considering a plan to incorporate a provision of asking the license applicants whether they will be ready to donate their organs upon their death or not.

One of the famous hospitals on New Delhi, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital was represented by a surgeon, Dr Ashwin Mallya, who only echoed the belief. He felt that since most of the donors are from accident casualties, their driving licenses can well explain about their willingness of donating organs.
