Rheumatoid arthritis has many agonizing issues

Rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is known for its autoimmune conditions. That means our body immune system attacks itself. In any normal condition, our body system produces anti-bodies for attacking bacteria and viruses, by this way it protects our body from any sort of infection. But those having Rheumatoid arthritis, their body-immune system will send antibodies to the joint linings, which actually attack the surrounding tissues of the joints instead of attacking the harmful bacteria. In this body condition, synovium, basically a membrane or thin layers of cells usually cover each of our joints, but as the antibodies attack this membrane or synovium, they become inflamed and sore.

In this condition of inflammation, chemicals get released and so thicken the synovium. The chemicals damage cartilage, tendons, ligaments and bones. Damaging further, these chemicals loosen the alignments and shapes of the joints. Doing further rampages, these chemicals cause complete destructions of the joints.

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis

It is a gradual development, initially felt in the smaller joints like toes and fingers. Muscle stiffness becomes one of the early symptoms, some times knees and shoulders also get early affected. The symptoms of this health condition vary from patient to patient. The symptoms being not permanent in some cases, they appear and disappear over time, so are the conditions of flaring up as per the deterioration, severity and intensity of the condition. Morning is the most painful time, of course as the day progresses; the pain in the joints comes down slightly. Accompanied by pain, stiffness, warmth and redness and inflammations around the affected portions are the common symptoms. The other symptoms are lining of blood vessels, lungs and heart, salivary and tear glands.

Causes

Rheumatoid arthritis attacks more women than men because of the estrogen (a female hormone). According to some research study, although not conclusively proven, estrogen is responsible for the progression and development of the problem. Genetic or hereditary transportation of the problem is also one of the causes. But one should not be afraid that if any one in his / her family is having Rheumatoid arthritis, he / she will definitely inherit it.

Some times life style factors also pose to be the cause for this type of unacceptable body condition, in most of the cases smokers are found to be attacked more by this disease. People, who drink alcohol beyond limit, are also susceptible to become the victim of the disease.

Recommendations: - Of course treatments being the first among the recommendations, for reducing inflammation to slow down and prevent damages in joints. This can help the patient as normal as possible. Regular exercise is another important recommendation. Intakes of healthy diet, like other normal persons without this problem, are very much recommended. Both these are significantly helpful for preventing many of these arthritic conditions. Patients, carrying on regular exercise, can get the advantage of getting relieved of stress and also can reduce their fatigues. Of course the patients with Osteoarthritis must not rigor in their form of exercise; they should rather follow gentle form of exercises that do not strain much on the joints. For example, swimming does not take much strain, but helps exercising your entire muscle.
