Sciatica nerve makes you stand, walk or stops you to stand or walk----see the facts in brief

The sciatica nerve runs from the spine down to both of the legs’ back. The nerves are very vital in controlling the back muscles of the lower leg or of the knees. These nerves provide the vital sensations to the backside of our thighs, soles of our feet and a few areas of our lower legs. If any of the sacral nerves S1, S2 or S3 or lumber nerves, such as L3, L4 or L5 get compressed or damaged, the condition is known as sciatica.

Causes of sciatica

Other than the above reason, some times a spinal disk may bulge, gets roughened or enlarged or vertebrae get misaligned. Sometimes the disc may be degenerated to cause the reduction in the lateral foram’s diameter. Some times the cause may be the tumor to have impinged on the nerve roots or the spinal cord. Of course one of the major reasons is the trauma patients who are the victims of road accidents or some other fall. The likelihood of Spinal disc herniation is also one of the common causes of sciatica.

Symptoms of this syndrome

You may have weakness in your foot movement or during your knee bending. The adversity of your feet bending may be felt while you are trying to bend your feet down or inward. A patient may complain about numbness or loss of sensation in the lower limbs. A few patients may experience abnormality or weak sensations in their lower body parts. The sciatica patients feel worse when walking a few yards or try to bend backward. A good number of patients find difficulty while laughing, coughing or sneezing. If night is a nightmare for you with pain—this means you may be the victim of sciatica; if so, you may also find it difficult for standing or sitting for a while.

Sciatica pain may vary in a wider way, such as burning sensation, dull ache, mild tingling etc. But in the worst condition, the person may find difficulty in his / her movements. In many occasions the pain may be felt at one side; some times some patients feel sharp pain in one part of his hip or leg, while the other part may have only numbness. In some occasions, either numbness or pain may be experienced on the foot-sole or on the calf-back; here the leg affected, may be felt to be weak.
