Teenage Acne - What Should Youngster Be Aware Of?

Most of the teens get acne these days and the changing food habits are known to be the culprit behind. It is stated that taking oily foods in larger quantity in the form of fast foods can lead to acne. The reason is that oily substance known as sebum can clog the pores.

Pimples are known to pop up not only in face, but also in shoulders, chest, back, neck and face. The safe thing about acne is that it is not a serious health risk, even though, severe acne can lead to permanent scars and it can affect self-esteem to a great extent, particularly when it comes to teens. The reason is that teenage acne, make children feel themselves that they have an ugly face with lots of blemishes around.

What do these tiny skin blemishes look like?

It can appear as any of the following:

Whiteheads: White dots are impacted by pores with oil and skin covered by skin layers.

Blackheads: These are impacted pores, wherein material pushes out via follicles. The black color is not created by dirt, but it is caused by dead skin cells and bacteria.

Nodules, pustules and papules: These are more serious lesions that appear swollen and red because of infection of inflammation of the tissue that surrounds the clogged follicles that are generally painful and feel hard.

Cysts: These are pimples that are filled by pus and they are deep in nature.

Why do some teens get acne and other are not?

Many teens have a doubt as to why some of their friends do not have acne, while some alone have. Even though, the exact cause is not known, it is found that hormones called as androgens can play a major role in this regard. These hormones can increase both in boys and in girls when they reach their teenage. These hormones can make the oil glands in the skin to get larger and can create more sebum. Even, this hormone can also increase in production due to pregnancy or because of usage of birth control pills in older women.

Apart from these reasons, genetics can also be the reason behind. If parents had this problem during their teenage, there are greater chances of children getting.

Even, some medications taken for conditions like epilepsy can also lead to this skin issue. Apart from this, cosmetics with greasy consistency can also clog the pores and it is found that water-based make up products are less likely to lead to acne as compared to oil-based make up.

Other factors worsening acne:

• Stress

• Hormonal changes taking place in young girls and even adult women two to seven days before the starting of menstrual cycle, can get acne

• Pressure created by tight collar, backpacks and helmets

• Squeezing or picking blemishes

• Friction that is caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin.
