Cholesterol (good & bad)
Cholesterol never gets dissolved in blood. Cholesterol always gets carried through our bloodstream. The name of the carriers is lipoproteins. The word is the combination of lipid (i.e. fat) and proteins.
Lipoproteins (fat + protein)
There are two types of proteins. They are LDL & HDL, responsible for carrying cholesterols from the cells and to the cells. The lipoprotein which is low density in nature is called LDL. The lipoproteins which are high-density in nature are called HDL. Both these LDL & HDL and 1/5th of our triglyceride level make up for our total cholesterol count.

Bad cholesterol is LDL
Because of its contribution to the plaque, which is a thick hard deposit and responsible for blocking arteries, LDL is known as bad cholesterol. Due to this blockage, arteries become less flexible that results to atherosclerosis. Due to the formation of clot, the narrowed arteries eventually become blocked, resulting to stroke or heart attack. Other than heart attack or stroke, blood supply to the legs can also be hampered, the reason maybe due to the development of peripheral artery disease.
Good cholesterol is HDL
The job of HDL is to help in removing LDL from arteries, so it is called good cholesterol. According to the experts in the medical field, HDL works as the scavenger, because it carries away the LDL cholesterol from the arteries and sends back to the liver for breaking down and after this LDL is excreted from our body. However, 1/4th to 1/3rd of blood cholesterol is scavenged by the HDL. If your HDL level is high enough, it can protect you from stroke or heart attack. But in case your HDL level is low, you can be the candidate for heart disease.

Patients with high level of triglycerides are found to have high level of cholesterol, and in addition, the same patient may have low level of HDL (the good one) and high level of LDL (the bad one). Many people, who are diagnosed with diabetes or heart disease, have high level of triglycerides.
The genetic variation of LDL is often known as Lp (a) Cholesterol, which poses to be the major factor of premature fatty deposits’ development in the arteries. The problem of Lp(a) Cholesterol, is not yet fully understood, but it is doubted to be interacting factor with those substances which are seen in the walls of arteries, contributing to the fatty acid’s deposits.
