Dedicated Breast Oncology Unit Inaugurated At Narayana Health City, Bengaluru

Recently, Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw was felicitated for her involvement in the Bone Marrow Transplants by the staff of Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center at the Narayana Health City in Bengaluru. She is the CMD Biocon and Director of Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center. This center operating at the Narayana Health City holds the pride of having completed more than 400 Bone Marrow Transplants and in the current year alone more than 100 such transplants were conducted.

What do the Senior Vice President Say?

On the occasion, Dr. Paul Salins, the Senior Vice President and the Medical Director of the Center stated that they are the largest centre in the country with 400 bone transplants and they are able to provide long-term cure for diseases like Aplastic Anemia, Thalassemia and Leukemia. These diseases were not curable earlier, but now they can be cured in an effective manner by this center. The center holds the proven efficacy record of more than 80% success in Bone Marrow Transcription for curing not only different types of cancers, but also other genetic blood disorders as well. The Senior VP also added that all these were possible mainly because of the selfless efforts of Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw.

Breast oncology unit inaugurated:

On this occasion, Dr. Kiran Mazumdar took the pleasure of inaugurating the Nilima Roveshen Women’s Breast Oncology Unit, which was set up in remembrance of her friend, who lost her life to the dreadful disease.

What does the chairman say?

Dr. Devi Shetty the Chairman of the center talked that breast cancer is the most common cancer among Indian women and particularly the state of Karnataka ranks 6th in the breast cancer incidence in India. She has further added that more than half of the women suffering with this cancer in the city of Bangalore are below 50 years of age. This is the reason behind the setting up of the Breast Oncology Unit, wherein women can walk in and can avail all services under a single roof right from understanding about preventive care to diagnostics and treatment options. She has added that this will be of great help in timely disease management and the resulting cure from the disease. She also praised Dr. Kiran Shaw for her support and generous contribution to the Bone Marrow Transplant unit functioning at the Narayana Health City.

About Bone Marrow Transplant Unit:

The hospital has a 14-bedded Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. This unit is administered by a team of devoted hameo-oncologists. The CMD of Biocon and the Director of the Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center stated that this center continues to give hope to many cancer sufferers by providing advanced care to the patients.

Generally, it is recommended that when they experience some changes in the appearance of their breast or when they feel some lumps in the breast, women should seek medical help for screening to make sure that they do not have breast cancer. It is also stated that when detected at the earlier stage, this disease can be cured easily, as against seeking help at later stages of the disease.
