If you are diagnosed to have higher level of cholesterol in your blood, your doctor might have recommended you to bring down the consumption of foods that are rich in oil content and you might also be suggested with some medications for keeping your cholesterol level at control. But, there is a wonderful remedy called honey that you can use right from the comfort of your home to keep a check on your cholesterol hike. Nobody will say that I don’t like honey, isn’t? Besides being satiating our taste buds, this nature’s gift can also keep the cholesterol level under control.

Types of cholesterol:

It is true that cholesterol is important for a number of functions in the human body like hormone production. However, an increase in the level of cholesterol can lead to heart attack. There are two main types of cholesterol and they are LDL and HDL. The former is expanded as Low-Density Lipoproteins and these are bad fats that can attach to the walls of the arteries, thereby leading to cardiovascular diseases. The latter is expanded as High-Density Cholesterol or HDL and it is a good type as it can clean out the dangerous LDL that attaches to the walls of the arteries. Now comes the details about honey as the remedy for cholesterol:

How to use honey for reducing cholesterol?

If it is found that there is higher level of LDL in your body, you can just use honey as the remedy to bring down this level naturally. All you have to do is to take 10 pieces of cinnamon sticks and boil the same in 5 tea cups of water. Once the water is boiled and the essence of the sticks get into the water, you can wait until the temperature of the water reaches to warm temperature and then can add a spoon of honey to the water and can drink the mixture. This is a wonderful remedy for higher LDL cholesterol.

Studies prove the effectiveness of honey:

To identify the effect of honey on LDL levels, studies were conducted by the ‘Journal of Medicinal Food’ and ‘The Scientific World Journal’.  In the study conducted by the Scientific World Journal, the participants were provided with 70 grams of honey for consumption on a daily basis for a month continuously. The same type of study was conducted by the Journal of Medicinal Food as well with different groups of people. The result was that LDL levels in these two groups of people reduced considerably. It was also found that these people experienced an increase in the HDL level as well. This means that honey, in addition to bringing down the LDL level, can also play a major role towards increasing the HDL as well.

Moms are recommended to make it a point to include honey in the diet regularly for children and other family members right from the younger age. This will prevent the chances of increase in the LDL level totally, thereby helping the family members to maintain a healthy weight and body.
