Sore throat is a nothing but painful condition of sore along with itching and irritation. Condition becomes worse during swallowing; some other symptoms of sore throat are dry throat, swollen glands in the neck, fever, white patches on the tonsils, hoarseness, joint pain or difficulty breathing.

Many things can make your throat sore: hay fever, postnasal drip from sinus infection, smoky air, a too hot beverage, mouth-breathing while sleeping, shouting and infection by virus and bacteria. The most common type of sore throat comes with viral illness such as colds and flu. Viral sore throat typically last for three to four days. They go away without any medical treatment, but antibiotics don’t make them go away faster. Herbs, however, can soothe the symptoms of sore throats, boost immune function and fend off virus.

Home remedies for sore throat:

• Pomegranate tea
Pomegranate acts as an astringent which reduces the swelling and relives the pain you just need to do that peel the pomegranate and collect its rinds. Make a tea of these rinds drink it twice a day or gargle thrice a day. You can also have pomegranate juice.

• Marshmallow
A root of this herb contains mucilage, which helps coat and soothe mucus membranes in the throat. Add the 1 tsp in hot water for 5 min then strain and have it.

• Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) along with garlic or honey can effectively kill the bacteria causing sore throat.
Drink 1 tsp of honey and 1tsp of ACV with hot water. You can also use it for gargling.

• Echinacea
Anti-inflammatory Echinacea helps thrust your immune system into all-system alert mode. It also can numb inflamed throat tissues. In studies, Echinacea kills some of the virus that commonly infects the upper respiratory tract.
You can use this herb as a tea or decoction thrice a day.

• Shiitake
These culinary treasures have antiviral and immune stimulating effects. You can cook with them or take encapsulated products.
Typical dosages up to 400 milligram capsules a day.

• Liquorices
The root of this herb reduces inflammation, soothes the throat, boost up immune system and increase the body’s production of the antiviral substance interferon. You can add this herb in your diet in the form of tea or 400-500 mg capsules per day.

• Mullein
Soothing mullein fights flu virus. Typical dosages: up to 6 cups of tea per day or 25-40 drops of tincture every three hour.
• Drink lots of hot water either plain or along with honey or lemon.
• The hot Soup (chicken soup) will help you to get rid of sore throat.
• Steam inhaling and salt gargle are very old and effective remedy for sore throat.
