The season of rains is here. Although rains are a relief from the burning heat but can be dangerous for our body. Most of the diseases related to monsoon arise when we consume outside food and water based dishes. Mentioned in this article are nine food items that should be avoided strictly during the season of monsoon.
1. Pakoras – The combination of pakoras and a cup of tea is almost irresistible as a snack during the season of rains. They are already deep fired and hence a very unhealthy snack even if prepared at home. The level of humidity is certainly high during the season of monsoons and as a result the digestive system of an average human loses immunity. Therefore it is necessary to avoid food item which are very healthy and not easy to digest or food items rich in oil content as it can affect the stomach. Food items like pakoras, which are sold outside can be very harmful as they are unhygienic as the control over the contents used for the preparation of such food item is lost.

3. Kachori/Samosa – Kachoras and Samosas are also some of the most loved and appreciated roadside snack during the season of rains in India along with a cup of teaRoadside Juices – The juices prepared on the roadside are not healthy as there is no certainty that the fruits used for the preparation are fresh or not. The fruits used are sometimes left untouched after pealing or cutting before the juice is made, which increases the probability of getting infected. For the similar reason it is advised not to consume fruits salad that is sold roadside. The preparation for a healthy juice does not take long and can be extremely healthy as compared to those sold on roads.
7. Sea Food – The season for breeding is monsoon for fishes and prawns hence seafood should be strictly avoided during the season of rains. If it is very essential for you to consume fish try and pick the freshest fish possible.
8. Carbonated Drinks – Carbonated drinks tend to dip the levels of minerals in the body and also decreases the activity of enzymes in the body which is a reason good enough for digestion. It is therefore advised to avoid them especially during the monsoons as the digestive system is already upset. On the other hand you should try and consume as much water as possible as the sweat takes time in evaporating during the season of rains due to the moisture in the air. Consuming more water will restrain our body from releasing heat. Therefore it is suggested to keep water bottles handy. You can try and consume warm beverages such ginger tea or light coffee.
9. Peeled or Pre-cut fruits – It is always better to not eat fruits which are already cut and stored or peeled and kept in open. The consumptions of monsoon should be barred as soon as the rains arrive. Fruits like pears, peaches, bananas, papayas and plums should be regularly consumed. Although make sure to wash carefully before eating. You can also go for nuts and seeds but keep the quantity of consumption low.
