Kidneys are primarily responsible for removing excess water from the body and also they play an important role in retaining the water when the body actually needs water. They are also responsible for many other functions, but some of our activities affect kidneys to a great extent and without knowing this, many of us continue to follow those habits. Here are the details about the activities that can affect the effective functioning of these organs. When you become aware of them, you can stay away to ensure the healthy functioning of these organs:

Timely emptying of bladder does not happen:

When timely emptying of bladder does not happen and when this is continued regularly, it will have an impact on the healthy functioning of these organs. When urine is kept in the bladder for long, it will cause the bacteria present in the urine to multiply, thereby leading to kidney and urinary infection. Even, it can lead to incontinence and renal failure as the urine that is not let out for long will create pressure on the kidneys. So, do not delay the call of nature here after, if you follow this as a practice.

Insufficient water intake:

Not taking sufficient water can also cause huge damage. Generally, kidneys are responsible for flushing out metabolic wastes from the body and they also regulate the erythrocyte production. When there is a lack of water supply to the body, there will be lesser flow of blood to the kidneys as the blood will become concentrated. This will bring down the ability of kidneys to eliminate toxins from the body. When more toxins remain in the body, more health problems will spur up. It is suggested that a healthy adult should take at least 10-12 glasses of water and other fluids on a daily basis to keep the kidneys healthier and to keep the body hydrated.

High salt consumption:

Some people regularly add more salt to their foods and this can badly affect the kidneys. These organs generally metabolize about 95% sodium consumed through foods. When the salt content in the body increases, the kidneys will have to work harder for removing them, which in turn might lead to decreased kidney functioning, thereby causing water retention in the body. Water retention in turn will lead to blood pressure hike, thereby increasing the chances of kidney diseases.

Regular use of analgesics:

Many of us have the practice of taking over-the-counter painkillers to reduce pain, fever and inflammation. But, these medicines can cause damage to different organs in the body inclusive of kidneys. Reports state that these painkillers can reduce the flow of blood to the kidneys, thereby affecting their function. Regular intake of these medicines can also lead to renal failure. So, it is recommended that analgesics should be used only in recommended doses as per the prescription of doctor.

Diet rich in protein:

Even though, protein is good for health, when its consumption increases like when red meat with high protein content is taken in huge quantity, it can affect the functioning of kidneys.
