Some Home Remedies For Sore Throat

When an individual faces scratchiness, pain or irritation in the throat, this means that he has throat infection or sore throat. It happens because of the swelling of the pharynx. This is the reason why this condition is medically termed as pharyngitis. The patients experiencing this problem will also have difficulty in swallowing food and water.

Causes:

Throat infection is actually experienced by people as the initial sign of cold, flu or a strep throat. It is stated that viral infections are the main reasons behind the pain in this area. But, strep throat is something that happens rarely and it happens because of streptococcal bacteria. In addition to home care and natural remedies, people facing this condition should also take antibiotics as well.

The other causes include smoking, post nasal drip, and allergic reaction or even due to dry heat. But, rather than suffering with it for long, the best thing can be done is to take some at-home remedies mentioned below to get relief from this problem:

Salt water gargling:

This is a remedy that is used by people for centuries for pain in throat. The reason is that salt water can soothe the throat and can bring down the pain, swelling and irritation. All that is to be done is to take a glass of warm water and a quarter spoon of salt should be added to this water and mixed well. This water should be used for gargling.

Cinnamon, cardamom and black pepper:

Cinnamon is known for its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. It can be effective in providing relief to viral diseases, apart from antibacterial action as well. When this is the case of cinnamon, cardamom can effectively soothe the throat and can bring down the irritation. Pepper is something that can enhance the medicinal value of the other two spices by improving their bioavailability in the body. A gram each of cinnamon and cardamom powder should be taken and about 125 mg of black pepper powder should also be obtained. A spoon of honey should be mixe©d to the powdered form of these spices for making a paste. When this paste is licked for three times a day, it is possible to get excellent relief.

Basil tea:

Basil leaves are considered holy in India and this plant known to have powerful connection with lord Vishnu in Indian mythology. The holy leaves of this plant are known to have antibacterial and antiviral properties and it can provide excellent relief for strep throat too. It can bring down the symptoms associated with throat infection and can stop the growth of bacteria as well. As it has anti-inflammatory properties, the tea prepared from these leaves can bring about a soothing effect on the throat. All that is to be done is a few of these leaves are to be added to boiling water and once the water has reached to room temperature the leaves should be strained. A spoon of honey can be added to this tea for relief.
