Some frequently asked questions about IGMSY scheme
1) Why the age limit is 19 years and above?
Ans: - The legal marriageable age of a girl is 18, so it cannot be less than 19. By this way women are educated and encouraged to marry only after attaining legal marriageable age and the government approved child birth age.
2) Why only two live births?
Ans: - Women are encouraged to have healthy family planning program. The monetary encouragement related with pregnancy must not be taken otherwise and promote the sense of limitless pregnancies.
3) Why this IGMSY scheme?
Ans: - The program is to improve the health status of P & L (pregnant and lactating) women along with the new born. The program will benefit the woman and the infant in these ways:-
a) Promotion of appropriate practices like
i) Utilization of care and service during pregnancy
ii) Safest possible institutional or assisted delivery
iii) Proper lactation to the new born
b) Encouraging the women to follow IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding) in an optimal way
i) At the earliest possible and exclusive breast feeding of the child, at least for the first 6 months after the birth of the child.
4) Who are the implementing agencies?
Ans: - IGMSY scheme is a Central Government Sponsored program. The program is a full grant-in-aid scheme, being provided to all
UTs (Union Territories) and SGs (State governments) the program is implemented as a pilot basis program.
All the ICDS offices and Centres of Anganwadis (AWACs) are working in coordination for making the program a big success.
5) How the program came into being?
Ans: - National Family and Health Planning survey during the year 2005 & 2006 had conducted an important investigative survey and came out with the importance of the needs of P & L under the Family and Health Planning program.
In their XI th 5 year plan, Planning Commission also studied the need for the program.
6) How the general people will locate the implementing agency or authority in different locations that include UTs and SGs in the country?
