Your Pre-Pregnancy Checklist

Your Pre-Pregnancy Checklist

If you are planning to get pregnant, there are certain things you will have to follow to make sure that you can achieve your goal and also can make sure that you get a healthy baby. Here is a pre-pregnancy checklist to follow:

Get moving:

Now, your goal is to conceive, it is time to buckle up and start moving. This means that you can start some healthy physical activities to bring down your waist. The reason is that getting into shape will make your pregnancy and delivery easier. For most of the days, you can aim at a 30-minute moderate workout session. You can engage in activities like swimming, bicycling and walking or even, you can join a prenatal workout class.

Eat right:

As soon as you get pregnant, you will crave for pickles and ice cream. But now, your focus should be healthy eating. Even, you can ask your partner to take part in your goal towards eating right and healthy foods. Remember that your body needs a lot of folic acid, calcium, protein and iron. You can start stocking up low-fat dairy products, whole grains, leafy greens, veggies, nuts and fruits and remember to cut back on unhealthy snacking like junk foods, soda, baked foods and chips.

Folic acid becomes important:

Daily vitamin is something essential for you at this juncture. Remember that for pregnancy planning, you need 400 micrograms of folic acid every day. This is a vitamin B substance that comes in many foods like beans, citrus fruits and greens. You can rely on folic acid pills to get enough of this vitamin. This vitamin will help in prevention of serious birth defects that can happen even before you get to know that you are pregnant.

Take care of your weight:

Remember that being too thin can make it harder for you to conceive. On the other hand, too much weight can also cause problem. The reason is that too much of weight can lead to health issues like high blood pressure and diabetes. Excess weight can also make labor to last longer. To identify the ideal weight, talk to your doctor.

Get a checkup:

It is better to get a complete physical examination a few months before you start trying to conceive. You can check with your doctor to find the prenatal vitamins needed, vaccines and tests that should be done, about any health conditions that you have and also talk about the medicines if any to be taken.

See your dentist:

If you do not have the habit of flossing, it is time to start now. Before your pregnancy, it is important to make sure that you have a healthy dental line. This will help for your smile and it will also be helpful for your baby. The important point to remember here is that pregnancy can increase the chances of your gum disease, which in turn can increase the chances of early delivery. So, visit your dentist and floss and brush regularly as per the recommendation of your dentist right from now.
