How much should you remain concerned about heart, attacks, stroke etc? They do really matter for all

Meaning of stroke

A stroke means either there is a vessel burst or blood is clotted, causing insufficient nutrients and oxygen to the brain. In case of either of the causes, oxygen-rich blood supply to the brain cannot be adequate. This causes the quick start of death of the brain cells. And this is also the reason, one must know about the symptoms and signs of strokes. Anyone having some of the symptoms must take action ‘then & there’.

If the blood clot is the reason for stroke, the name of the stroke is ischemic stroke. This is the most common type of stroke and these accounts for 87 per cent of all death cases in the USA.

Haemorrhagic stroke means either the blood vessels bleed or burst in the brain that compresses the surrounding tissues in the brain. This kind of stroke is responsible for 13 per cent of all types of strokes.

The next kind of stroke is TIA or ischemic attack due to temporary clotting of blood. This is rightly said to be the warning strokes. This type of strokes last only for a minute or two but gives the warning signal for a big attack and the beginning of a whole lifestyle change. This of course necessitates calling a doctor at the earliest.

Risk factors involved in it

In each year, the frequencies and the numbers of strokes in the USA are startlingly on the rise, so you must not live in fear and take preventive measures without further delay.

It is always advised that you must learn about the major symptoms and risk factors in strokes. Always have a good look to your mirror. Many of the risk factors are beyond your control, such as gender, age and race, but many can be controlled if you are alert in this matter.

What you can control?

Avoid cigarette smoking; take care of your diet, blood pressure and cholesterols.  Always have a look at the risk factors of strokes. Remain supervised by a competent doctor in every case of your physical conditions.

Atherosclerosis & Stroke

If a person’s arteries are hardened, the condition is known to be “Atherosclerosis”. Because of this situation, fatty substances, calcium, cholesterol, cellular waste products and other substances get built up in an artery’s inner lining. The condition is known as plaque.

The disease, due to the above disturbances, remains as a simple but with the complexities in the body condition that starts in the early childhood. With the progression of age the problems also get worsened. Some of the patients in their 20s experience the rapid progression of the problem. Up to the age of 50 to 60, the person with the problem does not have any life threatening risk with this.

Causes of Atherosclerosis

Any person with any history of any type of cardiovascular problem runs the increased risk of Atherosclerosis. The numbers of causes for the Atherosclerosis disease are Physical inactivity; obesity; diabetes; high blood pressure especially “bad” cholesterol of LDL that is over 100 mg/dL, which are responsible for damages in the blood vessel lining, making the incidences of atherosclerosis. Cigarette smoking or any type of exposure to tobacco smoking is responsible for causing damage to blood vessels that as eventuality, ultimately accelerates atherosclerosis and the dreaded high blood cholesterol.

How does it start?

Endothelium, the inner lining of the artery gets damaged due to the high triglyceride levels and high cholesterol level. The other factors involved are high sugar levels, toxic substances due to cigarette smoking and some other factors which affect blood’s circulation and such types of situations. If the blood vessels are damaged, the Atherosclerosis disease begins in addition to formations of plaque.

The way it progresses

The blood vessel damage causes deposits of fats, cholesterol, calcium, platelets and cellular debris in the walls of the artery. All these substances cause stimulation in the walls of the artery cells that as a result produce other material substances.

In this process, some more cell accumulation takes place in the artery’s inner most layers’ walls. These are the places where Atherosclerosis lesions are formed. These cells get accumulated and many of them get divided. During this situation, fats get built up around and within the cells, in addition to formations of connective tissues. The formation of this built-up is known as plaque. Usually it affects medium and large sized arteries. The cells and the materials in its surroundings very significantly thicken the endothelium. With the shrinkage of the diameter of the artery the blood flow gets decreased that results in reduced supply of oxygen.

The way the atherosclerotic plaque damages the body condition

Once plaques become fragile and so get raptured, the damages are huge. Due to the rapture of the plaque, blood gets clotted and causing the blockage of blood flow. It also causes break off while travelling to some parts of the body. In either of the situations, once blood gets clotted, it blocks the blood vessel of the feeder of the heart. In case of the feeders of the heart are blocked, the result will be heart attacks. This leads to the feeder of the brain also getting blocked, and so causing stroke. Like this, due to the blockage of blood supply to the legs and arms, gangrene will be the eventuality that causes difficulty in walking.

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a process in which cellular waste products, cholesterol, fatty substances and calcium and fibrin get involved. This results to the built up of some sort of blood clotting materials that get stored in the artery’s inner lining. The built up condition is known as plaque. Generally, arteriosclerosis is the condition of hardening and thickening of arteries. The condition of arteriosclerosis occurs with the progression of age in a human being.

When plaque is formed, blood flow through the artery gets blocked either partially or totally. Once plaque is formed, two more eventualities take place. They are:

i) Breakage of a piece of plaque, and

ii) The development of plaques as the clotting agent or causing thrombosis.

In the event of either of the cases which are the blockage of whole artery, the casualty may be stroke or heart attack.

Atherosclerosis & Stroke

Ischemic stroke s is two types, which are caused due to narrowing of blood vessels and blood clots to the brain due to atherosclerosis or some other substances. Atherothrombotic is one of the commonest strokes. The formations of blood clots on an atherosclerotic plaque within the brain’s blood vessels results to the blockage of the blood flow to the particular part of the brain, causing this type of stroke.

The occurrence of cerebral embolism is responsible for the wandering clot or some other type of particles, which are known as embolus.  The fact is: embolus gets carried by the blood stream and takes it to the artery of the brain. In this condition, the flow of the blood in the brain gets blocked. The cause of embolus is due to a piece of plaque or clot that gets broken off from an atherosclerotic plaque. Nonetheless, the causes of the majority of the embolic strokes are blood clots that get formed out of fibrillation in the artery and finally it enters the bloodstream.

The result of Atherosclerosis

Once Atherosclerosis occurs, large and medium sized arteries get affected. The cases of Atherosclerosis differ from person to person. By nature, Atherosclerosis is a progressive and slow disease which occurs during the childhood in some of the cases. When some of these children attain their age of 30s, the disease grows rapidly. However, in some cases the rapidity of the problems starts only after 50s or 60s.

The start of atherosclerosis

The occurrence of Atherosclerosis is a complex one. The causes of the start of Atherosclerosis are still unknown in the medical world. However some scientists are in the opinion that the cause of Atherosclerosis is due to the damage of the artery’s inner most layer. The name of the layer is known as endothelium.

So far scientists in the medical world are in the opinion that the following cause are most likely to be responsible for the condition of Atherosclerosis:-

· If the blood has extraordinary level of triglyceride  and cholesterol

· Cigarette smoking

· High blood pressure

The excessive growth of atherosclerosis that affect aorta, coronary arteries and the leg arteries are due to the aggravations of cigarette smoking.

The damaging condition is due to the deposits of cholesterol, platelets, over time fats, calcium and cellular debris in the artery wall. The after effects of these deposits lead to the further production of some other materials. Because of this, more cells get accumulated in the artery’s inner most layers, resulting to the formation of atherosclerotic lesions. Simply the cells are not accumulated, many of them get divided. In a simultaneous process, fats get built up around and within these cells. This follows formation of collective tissues.

Other than these, artery’s inner most layer turns to be very much thickened; the reason being the surrounding materials and accumulating cells. Because of sufficient thickening of the walls, the artery’s diameter becomes reduced. This in turn reduces flow of blood and ultimately supplies lesser amount of oxygen to the brain.

The common happenings due to these anomalies are formation of blood clotting. This results to the stoppage of blood flow. In case the oxygen supply of heart muscle is reduced, heart attack is the next eventuality. In the same manner, if the oxygen supply to the brain is hampered, stroke is the next eventuality.   And in case oxygen to the extremities is the condition, gangrene is the ultimate fallout.

Silent heart attacks—symptoms and risks involved in it.

Heart attacks may not always have symptoms attached with it.

Symptoms of heart attacks

Mostly the symptoms are shortness of breath, pain in your chest and cold sweats. In general, a person does not get any symptom of heart attack, before it finally attacks him or her. This is known as silent heart attack. In medical science it is known as silent ischemia, for which oxygen supply to the heart muscles becomes insufficient.

Silent heart attacks & their symptoms

Silent heart attack means either there is no symptom or unrecognised symptom or minimal symptom before the occurrence of heart attack. The heart attack is due to the temporary blockage of some section of heart that causes obstruction to the blood supply to the heart. This can cause damage and scarring to the heart muscle.

These types of patients are tested through EKG and MRI for correctly diagnosing whether the person had any sort of heart attack (some weeks or months before or not even any such).

People of silent heart attacks were found with subtle or non-specific symptoms of flu or indigestion. In some cases, some patients experience strain in their upper back or in the chest. Some patients may have discomforts in the upper jaw, in their chest, in the arms or in the legs. A few patients have excessive or prolonged fatigue before their heart attack, the reason of which was still unexplained. These are the less specified symptoms of heart attack which people often ignore as the symptoms and so attribute to the other issues.

Silent heart attack in women and their causes

A plaque build-up causes obstructions to the blood flow in the coronary arteries and gets it blocked. The observations differ in each case, and the most notable point is the numbers of the victims are more women than men. Some eminent doctor has found that although doctors, who attend to these women, often find the cause to be the anxiety but in many cases they also dismiss them. But the same eminent doctor concludes that the risk factors for the silent heart attack are the same as in the cases of recognized heart attack, but the causes include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, age and family history of heart disease.

A silent heart attack is equally dangerous like any recognized heart attack, because both the cases leave the patient with damaging and scarring conditions. Due to the problem, the patient will have some other heart related problems. The dangerous part of this silent heart attack is the patients do not know about the seriousness of the problem and so they continue with the obstructed blood flow. Neither he nor she seeks any medical advice; the impact of the problem gets potentially greater in these cases.

What a patient should do if he or she has a silent heart attack?

A silent heart attack means many complications, but the patient cannot realize the actual medical emergency. If you are the case, you must contact the doctor. But you must know the difference between a heart attack and anxiety attack. Either a patient should be the advocate for the disease, if you are not the case, bring the right person to stand as the advocate for the awareness program and educate as many as possible.

Prevention of silent heart attack

Any patient must be aware of the risk factors of cholesterol and blood pressure factors at first and then second thing is avoiding smoking. Regular exercise is the keys for decreasing heart diseases. Medical experts always guide everyone to listen to the bodies, and in case of any odd is knocking; the body, it should be reported to the doctors without ignoring for any reason.

Causes and the ways to prevent heart disease

There is no doubt that heart disease is the top most cause for the deaths in women. Yet only 20 per cent of the women accept that heart disease is the highest threatening factor for them.

Some astonishing example: Even a fitness expert and marathon runner could never dream the she could be the victim of heart disease. But the impossible happened to her. One fine morning when she was working out, she collapsed. When it was diagnosed, it was found that she had a heart disease.

Surprisingly, she was not in a position to believe the result of diagnosis, because she used to train others on fitness, and by herself she was a marathon runner. What only she could think is she might have wrongly pulled a muscle.

It is common that women hesitate to report to a doctor that he has symptom of heart attack. The following facts will say more about the startling revelations:

· The record, since 1984, says that women are more in number in the cases of deaths from heart disease than men. The gap between the numbers of deaths for such causes are on the upsurge and do establish the same facts.

· Ninety per cent of women are susceptible to one or more risk factors that lead to heart disease.

· Every 3rd woman in USA dies of heart disease in every year. And the gravity of the deaths there is 1 woman dies in every minute.

· The interesting point to be noted here is the symptoms of heart diseases differ even though the problem is the same for men and women.

· The comparative study between the deaths from breast cancer and heart disease in USA are 1 in 3 of the women die of heart diseases while 1 in 31 of the same sex in the same country dies of breast cancer.

So all should contribute to the hard truth and come forward towards the permanent solutions. The following guidelines will help you to know about the causes behind the heart diseases and their preventive measures.

Causes of heart disease

Cardiovascular systems and blood vessels get affected due to heart diseases, which in turn cause different types of problems. Atherosclerosis is such a process which is responsible for one of such problems. In this condition of atherosclerosis, plaque is built up in the walls of the arteries. Because of this condition, arteries get narrowed down, causing reduced blood flow to the heart. With the formation of blood clots, there is every chance of stoppage of blood flow. Once the blood flow is stopped, either stroke or heart attack is the ultimate conditions.

The problems of heart diseases do not stop with death, they may surface in many other forms, which are being discussed below:-

Ø Congestive heart failure or heart failure: It is the condition when heart is in working condition, but fails to pump blood and eventually gets insufficient amount of oxygen.

Ø An abnormal heart rhythm or Arrhythmia

In this condition, the heart beating is either too irregular or too slow or even too fast. With this situation, the working of the heart tells about its capacity or failure to pump sufficient blood to the heart or receive sufficient oxygen in the brain, which are of prime importance for our body.

Ø Heart valve problems

Due to the congestion (in this situation), heart cannot open fully for properly allowing the flow of blood to it. Also in many cases the heart’s valves do not close properly. This causes blood leakages through it. In some cases the propulsions or bulges in the upper chamber of the heart are the eventuality. This causes backward or reverse flow of the blood, which is a dangerous situation.

The preventive measures of these anomalies

There are many reasons for causing heart diseases. Some of these heart problems are controllable and some are not. However, with the right care & education and information, heart diseases, especially in the cases of women, can be prevented, treated and, even in some cases, fully cured.

As per the studies, in these days 330 fewer women in USA die in each day due to heart diseases. So, to enjoy the better health, you must follow the following lifestyles:

•              Don’t smoke

•              Get your blood pressure under control

· Manage your blood sugar

•              Lower your cholesterol

•              Stay active

· Know your family history

•              Lose weight

•              Eat healthy

“Go Red” is the call of the time, because there is enough work to be done for completely eradicating heart diseases. This job has to be done together. Many women are joining the “Go Red” movements so that many unknown heart diseases related issues can be opened up or unearthed.

Causes, Risks and other Facts about the prevention of stroke

Stroke is known to be the 4th top most causes of death as well the cause of different types of disabilities in the United States of America. It is believed that someone or other in a family must have been the patient of stroke in the USA. The causes may be the family history or some other risk factors which could be the reasons at the back of it. Even any healthy person may fall sick of or find symptoms of strokes.

Statistical perspectives

Ø In each year, almost 795,000 Americans are found to be either the victims of strokes or have the recurrence of strokes. This means on an average, in every 40 seconds there is a case of stroke.

Ø Every year, stroke takes away 137,000 lives in the USA alone; this equates 1 of every 18 deaths

Ø Every 4 minutes, on an average, someone dies of stroke  in the USA

Ø Out of 100 stroke related death in the USA, 40 are males and 60 are females.

Ø Talking about the Mexican American in the age group of 20 or older, 2.7 per cent of women and 2 per cent of the men are the victims of strokes.
