The Perfect Summer Hygiene Guide

If you are tired of staying inside the entire winters and are excited about being active outdoors, more power to you.

Though it is very hazardous if you don’t take care of yourself in the appropriate manner whether you are going to a tennis court, or hitting the track, you are bound to build up sweat, which if neglected, could hamper your body with numerous side effects. Those side effects can be body odor, jock itch, athlete’s foot and the feared bacne.

But the good part is, each of these conditions can be easily avoided and if not avoided they can be treated as well. After Man’s Life Today had a talk with three experts from entirely different backgrounds which include - an herbalist, an Olympic Athlete and a Dermatologist, a range of approaches to all the basic hygiene of a common man can be understood efficiently. You can chose an approach or mix and match from any of these. You can also chose to ignore all of the three but the after effects will not be very pleasant and girls aren't very fond of bacne.

Sweat and Body odor –

The doctor: Once a person starts to sweat or perspire particularly in areas like under arms and feet and also around the groin, these particular areas can get infected and can host bacteria which are responsible for body odor, stated Dr. Francesca Fusco, a dermatologist based in the New York City with an experience of more than 25 years. If you can minimize the rate of perspiration you can definitely cut down on the body odor. The best way according to Francesco is to use an antiperspirant along with a deodorant and increase the rate of showers per day. Another fact of which people are generally unaware is that you can use a deodorant on your hands and feet if they sweat too.

The herbalist: Berry Sherr, owner of Chamomile Natural Foods in Danbury for more than thirty years now states that the a perfect healthy liver helps our body in dealing with some of the bacteria and the toxins present in them which make you stink. If you have a tired liver and it cannot keep up with the amount work it has to do you will continue to stink. If you are inclined on getting rid of it as soon as possible, then Sherr recommends you to have chlorophyll tablets along with spirulina, chlorella, mixed greens, wheat grass or simply grass. To include fiber in diet on a regular basis is also recommended and is healthy. It is also very important to stay hydrated especially when you are doing physical labor. The significance of it is that it is very important for our body to exclude all the toxic material out of the body, even if it is in the form of sweat or perspiration through body.

The athlete: Three times Olympics triathlete Hunter Kemper says he to sweats a lot. It is therefore very important for him to have fresh towels and fresh spare shirt too. But the major emphasis is on staying hydrated says Kemper. If you are working out or doing physical labor keep water alongside so that you can hydrate yourself as you are work. If the physical labor is more than usual than Kemper suggests that you can pour water in your head occasionally. Pouring water on your head will not only keep you cool but it will also enhance the performance.

Athlete’s Foot and Jock Itch –

The doctor: Fusco says that moisture is the biggest enemy of all in this case and hence it becomes essential to keep these areas as dry as possible. It is helpful to towel between every toe and also in the nooks and crannies of the infected area. She further adds that if the fungus is beyond repair and doesn't seem to die out you can go for one of the best products Lamisil (you can also chose an alternative which functions similarly). The mentioned product or any similar one can help you get rid of the infection in a short period of time provided you take care of the infected area regularly.

The herbalist: Sherr states that carbs is one of the prominent reasons for the fungus so you can start by excluding them. Fungal forms in the body can be easily formed from the yeast present inside the body. She also recommends to people suffering from such fungal infection to consume anti fungal diet which includes garlic, supplements, black walnut and caprylic acid. An adequate supply of probiotics is also recommended as the good bacteria will assist your body in fighting the bad one.

The athlete: Kemp says that his shoes usually get wet when he goes on cycling, who is trying to make it to the fourth Olympic this year in London. To avoid such infections Kemp says that is important to keep a check on the insoles regularly and change them frequently. It is also very important to note that one should never step into a shoe with a wet insole says Kemp. To avoid various fungal issues Kemp has a very smart and efficient method to simply wear sandals when you are in the locker room and to shower after the work out to drain away all the harmful bacteria.

Bacne –

The doctor: Maintaining a good hygiene is the key to avoid issues like Bacne stated Fusco. He explained that as the pores on our body get choked form constant perspiration and sweating, dead skins develop which can host acne perfectly. Exfoliation is very important and it is very essential of take good care in keeping yourself very clean as much as possible. In the ideal situation you should do so with a deodorant soap. There is also no need to fret if you have a bacne or if it is in the developing stage. You can freely consult your doctor who can prescribe you with low doses of anti-biotics for example Oracea or a benzoyl peroxide dominated prescription.

The herbalist: Sherr says that testosterone can be prevented though a herb called sarsaparilla s testosterone also contributes to bacne in case of men. You can also keep your problems at bay via zinc supplements, omega-3 fish oil and B Vitamins, though if it gets worse you may have to detoxify. He further explained that the skin issues stem via impure blood or impure lymphatic. For people with in-tolerances, excluding dairy or gluten can work miracles in maintaining a healthy skin and correcting problems.

The athlete: According to Kemper it is advisable to make investments in clothes that can soak moisture and keep your dry as fast as possible. And one of the best and most appropriate method, which works for Kemper is that he runs without a shirt so that he can avoid each and every possibility of developing a bacne.
